Light Song Contest to celebrate IYL 2015

The Cultural Association Crescere Creativi proclaims, in cooperation with Tregatti Musical Productions and Enterprise 8 srl, the 1st “LIGHT SONG CONTEST” to celebrate the International Year of Light and Light-based Technologies 2015 (IYL 2015). The song-writing competition is open to anyone being at least 18 years old. The competition is addressed to all amateur authors and poets who would like to express “light” in lyrical form, taking inspiration from themes of IYL 2015. The top-selected lyrical poem will be transformed into a song, interpreted and set to music by Jalisse, winner of the Italian Sanremo Festival and recipients of 4th place in the European Song Contest in Dublin and promoted and distributed on the web. Deadline for entries is 30 June 2015 at 11pm.

The aim of the competition is to encourage creativity in authors of all ages for the lyrical expression of “light.”

Topical matter is not restricted except that it must be directly related to the theme of “light” and appropriate for a general audience. The work can be written in Italian, English, or Spanish. In case the work is written by several authors, the participation application must be presented together.

Participation by persons tied to musical or discographic labels, agencies, or other musical, producing or editorial societies is not permitted.

The work must correspond to the following composition:

  • Verse (2 quatrains)
  • Chorus (2 quatrains)
  • Verse (2 quatrains)
  • Chorus (2 quatrains)
  • Bridge (1 quatrain)
  • Chorus (2 quatrains)

Rhymes by choice (AABB, ABAB, ABBA, ABCB)

On the website www.crescerecreativi.net it will be possible to find an example of the requested lyrical composition and some links to further information.

The received lyrics will be judged by an artistic and technical jury which will include Jalisse (who will compose music for the winning text and also record and perform it), and Roberto Gasparini,  formerly A&R Director of EMI and BMG (RCA) records in Italy, and responsible for the discovery of new artists, and by members of the organization IYL 2015 for the content.

The winning entry will be interpreted and set to music by the professional group Jalisse and promoted on various events associated with IYL 2015. It is therefore a requirement that the winning author sign a contract for musical publication and provide a written acceptance of the award; otherwise, the prize will be awarded to another author. The winning author shall keep rights of authorship for the text. If the text was composed by more than one person, the acceptance of the award must be signed by all the authors; the failure to sign the acceptance of the prize even by one of the authors will be equivalent to non-acceptance of the prize.

While only one text will be set to music and recorded, the top 10 finalists will be displayed on the IYL 2015 site.

For more information on the submission process, please visit the contest website.
