11th Asia Lighting Arts Symposium celebrates the International Year of Light 2015

The 11th Asia Lighting Arts Symposium was held in Pazhou Complex, Guangzhou, China on 9-10 June 2015. It was organized by Guangzhou Guangya Messe Frankfurt Exhibition Co., Ltd., and co-organized by Yang Guang Media (YGLS), with the exclusive supporter, Asian Association of Lighting Designers (AALD).

Asia Lighting Arts Symposium, formerly named Guangzhou International Lighting Technology Symposium (ALAS) is one of the series events of the International Year of Light and Light-based Technologies 2015 (IYL 2015). And it has become one of the most authentic lighting symposiums in terms of lighting application in Asia after a decade of precipitation. In order to create a more valuable and delicate academic feast for lighting professions, ALAS keeps carrying forward its core value and forges ahead into the future with its superiorities, innovative ideas and resources integration.

Masters gather from Japan, South Korea, France and China

Regarding lighting design, Japanese design pursues the beauty of ultimate simple; South Korean design is mainly dominated by aesthetics, their works are neat and pretty; French design is noble, beautiful, luxurious and full of imagination; Chinese design focuses on its relationship with culture and also coheres with western culture. Thus it can be seen that different countries will have different solutions and have their own distinctive characteristics while doing the same thing, and certainly lighting with no exception.

ALAS 2015 invited ten distinguished industry experts to give speeches this year, most of the them were Chinese, including Mr. Zheng Jianwei, Mr. Jiang Feng, Mr. Lin Dawei (Taiwan, China), Mr. Cao Xiaoxin, Mr. Li Zhiqiang, Mr. Kang Kai and Mr. Liang Zheng. Meanwhile, the Symposium also invited Mr. Lucas Goy (France), Ms. Akari-Lisa Ishii (Japan) and Ms. Jeong Mee (South Korea) to join the speeches. They all gave their own opinions and jointly displayed a splendid chapter for the lighting industry that driven by their devotion of lighting.

Wide range of lighting topics

Planning, design, engineering, product are different segments to realize a lighting project.  ALAS 2015 developed specific topics on Lighting Plan, Lighting Design, Lighting Arts, Lighting Installation and Light & Space, Light & Architecture, etc., for designers, engineers and product suppliers, which achieved a highly fusion of ‘professional, thorough, sharing and interaction’.  The Symposium was divided into two main themes, the session of June 9th was ‘Managing lighting projects: from design to implementation’ while the other session of June 10th was about ‘Lighting inspiration in design’.

No matter the discussion was about the development and maturity of the lighting technologies and lighting standard in Asia, particularly in China, or kept questioning hot topics like industry + internet, smart lighting and all kinds of integrations with lighting, etc., or about the consideration of lumia art or the user-orientated design, all these “Light Stories” that presented by the speakers were based on their solid lighting experiences and obtained very positive response from the audience.

Fans are willing to be seated on the floor after the Symposium was fully booked.

More than 1200 participants attended the 11th ALAS. The audience included lighting designers, landscape designers, architects, interior designers, lighting engineers, municipal administration officers, lighting fixture manufacturers, university/institution scholars as well as industry journalists.

As a platform to deliver knowledge, ALAS is a communication opportunity that builds up for professions who have the same interests or expectation.  The spiritual connotation and intellectual preference of the lighting industry can be reflected by the Symposium. Many people are return-attendees for many years and regard it as a baptism of mind upgrade for their career.  ‘

Looking forward to 2016, ALAS will continue follow the brand concept of a top-level Symposium of the Lighting Industry. In order to promote the development of lighting project in Asia, the Symposium will gather the power of all sectors in lighting application field and strives to make its best effort to assist the development of the lighting industry.

About IYL 2015

The International Year of Light and Light-Based Technologies (IYL 2015) is a global initiative adopted by the United Nations (A/RES/68/221) to raise awareness of how optical technologies promote sustainable development and provide solutions to worldwide challenges in energy, education, agriculture, communications and health.  With UNESCO as lead agency, IYL 2015 programs will promote improved public and political understanding of the central role of light in the modern world while also celebrating noteworthy anniversaries in 2015—from the first studies of optics 1,000 years ago to discoveries in optical communications that power the Internet today.  The IYL Global Secretariat is located at the Abdus Salam International Centre of Theoretical Physics (ICTP).

The Founding Partners of IYL 2015 are the American Institute of Physics (AIP), the American Physical Society (APS), the Deutsche Physikalische Gesellschaft (DPG), the European Physical Society (EPS), the Abdus Salam International Centre of Theoretical Physics (ICTP), the IEEE Photonics Society (IPS), the Institute of Physics (IOP), Light: Science and Applications, the lightsources.org International Network, 1001 Inventions, The Optical Society (OSA) and the International Society for Optics and Photonics (SPIE).

Patron Sponsors include Bosca, the International Association of Lighting Designers (IALD), Royal Philips Lighting, Thorlabs and UL.
